Jews are first mentioned in 1675. In the 19th century they mainly engaged in the wine trade. In 1837 the community numbered 130 (total 2,445). A synagogue was built in 1862. The Jewish public school was closed down in 1924. In 1933 the Jewish population was 39. In the 1933-41 period, 18 left the town, 15 of them emigrating from Germany. Another 12 were deported to Izbica in the Lublin district (Poland) via Wuerzburg on 25 April 1942 and the last 11 to the Theresienstadt ghetto on 23 September 1942.
