DIEBURG Hesse, Germany. Established in the 14th century, the community numbered 175 in 1910. Its new Orthodox synagogue, built in 1929 and registered as town council property, was not destroyed on Kristallnacht (9-10 November 1938). Of the 159 Jews living there in 1933, 90 had emigrated by May 1939; 16 others were eventually deported. A 1,000-strong community of Polish Jews existed in Dieburg after WWII; most emigrated to Israel.
