Manfred Benjamin, the submitter, was born in Breslau, Germany, 1922. His parents were Else (Sussman) Benjamin, born 17 February 1892 and Siegbert Benjamin, born 15 November 1891. They both perished in the Holocaust, along with Else's mother Rosa Sussman. Manfred's brother was Heinz Benjamin, born in 1921. Heinz and Manfred were sent for aliya training in Berlin with a Beitar group in 1937-1938. Manfred joined Youth Aliyah and made aliya directly to Rosh Pina in 1938. Heinz intended to make aliya to Eretz Israel through illegal aliya, but he was caught while attempting to cross the border into Belgium. In the end, he succeeded in reaching Brussels. During the war Heinz remained in Belgium; he succeeded in escaping from a [deportation] train and was hidden by a Christian family; he married one of the daughters of the family.
