An album that belonged to a Gestapo man who was referred to as "Schmidt" by a producer of a film based on the photos. The album documents actions of the SS and of the German police in a number of towns around Warsaw. The album owner added captions.

Photos
The album was found in a German office building, abandoned during the winter of 1944-1945. The album was transferred to Warsaw, where the Central Committee for the Examination of Nazi crimes kept it. It was never revealed who owned the album, except for his being a member of the Gestapo. A few years later, a Polish director called Jerzy Ziarnik made a film based on the photographs in the album. The name of the film was “Gestapo Soldier Schmidt”. The name Schmidt was chosen by the director because it was a generic German name. Only part of the album was copied. The album depicts among others early anti-Jewish measures carried out by Einsatzgruppe V in Poland in September 1939 and by members of the SIPO in later dates. Most of the deportations depicted in the album were carried out as part of the ethnic cleansing of the annexed parts of Poland in 1939-1941. An article about this album was published by Juergen Fischer in Stern Magazine Nr. 47/1979. A copy of the article is in our files.
