A collection of photographs from the liberation of Buchenwald; also a collection of photographs that were smuggled out of Poland to the Polish Goverment in Exile in London. Includes photographs of Jews from the time of the occupation.

Photos

The pictures of the liberation of Buchenwald were taken by the submitter, David Levin. The other photographs are from his neighbor, Walter Kostecki. Kostecki, a Polish Catholic, was born in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia in 1919. He was a member of the Polish underground and helped to rescue Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto. He served in the Polish Navy that was based in England during the war and volunteered to be parachuted onto Polish soil where he served as courier for the Polish Government in Exile. In this capacity he smuggled microfilms of photographs from Poland, some of which are in this collection. See also FA 7031 and FA 7264.
