Avraham Shlafman (the father of the submitter, Nili Flechtman): Avraham Shlafman was born in Skalat, Poland (Ukraine, today), 1911; he made aliya to Eretz Israel by himself, without his family which was ultra-Orthodox, before the war; his mother died at a young age and his father remarried; his grandfather died before the war, apparently of natural causes; Avraham was born with the last name Milrad but changed his last name to Shlafman because he did not want to be drafted into the Polish Army; Tauba, her husband and their daughter perished during the Holocaust; Rachel nee Introligator Shlafman (the mother of the submitter): Her mother's parents owned a carton factory in Offenbach, Germany; her mother was born in Offenbach; her mother's parents had emigrated to Germany from Poland; the family's driver, a non-Jewish German, released one of the family's sons, Rudolf, from a labor camp; the family gave the driver their factory and their home, which was above the factory, in exchange for his rescue of their son; the family succeeded in leaving Germany; the grandfather and grandmother made aliya to Eretz Israel and all of the family members survived.
