An album known as "The Auschwitz Album" of photos taken by SS photographers in Auschwitz-Birkenau during the arrival of a transport of Hungarian Jews, including on 26/5/1944.

Photographs documenting the arrival process of Hungarian Jews from different places on different dates during late-spring-summer 1944. It seems that the majority of the photos document the arrival of a transport of 2,600 Jews from the Beregszasz Ghetto on 26/5/1944. The photos were taken by order of the Auschwitz complex commandant Rudolf Hoess by the head of the SS ID department Bernhard Walter and his assistant Ernst Hoffmann. Its original German title “The resettlement of the Jews from Hungary” points at it purpose: To document a successful and efficient SS operation. Fifteen copies of the album were made, but it is believed that only Walter’s own copy survived. Holocaust survivor Lily Jacob found it in an empty house in the town of Nordhausen, near Walter’s last service posting in the Mittelbau camp. The album was used in the Auschwitz Trial in Frankfurt in the mid-1960s. Jacob also allowed the Jewish Museum in Prague to copy the album. She finally donated it to Yad Vashem in 1983. A smaller album with photographs of Himmler's visit to Auschwitz and to smaller sub-camps is appended.
