Album of a German soldier from the 1st Mountain Division. The soldier served as a messenger in the Division headquarters, under commander General Kuebler. The album includes photographs of the Anschluss of Austria and the Blitzkrieg on Poland. There are also photographs of the Jews of Samok, of the burning synagogue in Przemysl, and of the Jews of Przemysl, who were rounded up by the Germans, and forced to repair the bridge that had been destroyed. The 1st Mountain Division was an elite unit of the Wehrmacht. The soldiers were recruited by Wehrkreis VII in southern Bavaria and western Austria. The division was based in Partenkirchen. In 1943 the Division was posted to Greece where the soldiers were responsible for a series of war crimes against the local population.
