This album is part of a series of albums that was found in the area of Lodz ghetto after its liberation. The albums were compiled by the Statistics Department, for the chairman of the Judenrat. The album contains photographs and drawings (collages), Photographs of announcements issued by the Germans or by Rumkowski, chairman of the Judenrat, including announcements concerning the establishment of the ghetto, a requirement to report data to the statistics department, and so on. The album also contains statistics, espescialy regarding the public health department, the food distribution department, the heating-oil distribution department, the committee for social welfare (infants' homes, orphanages, nursing homes, the homeless, the disabled), and education (kindergartens, schools and professional training).
Foods that were rare in the ghetto, such as meat and butter, were given on a monthly basis or as a reward in the diet shops ("diet laden"). These products were given to children, pregnant women and sick people, and to key figures, such as workshop managers, policemen, and high ranking officials like the lawyer Henryk Neftalin. The diet shops department was directed by a wealthy man named Novak.
