The submitter is sitting in front on the ground. She was born in Lvov in 1924 and was sent to Warsaw in 1943. In 1944 the Germans arrested her. She told them that she is a trained tailor and she was locked in the Pawiak prison with 23 other Jewish female inmates. As the Soviet Army approached the Warsaw towards the end of May 1944, the Germans made preparations to move the prisoners to Dachau. The prisoners were freed however on August 5 by the Polish underground army and the photo was taken on this occasion. Renate immigrated to Israel in 1968.
