Marysin was an area in the northeastern part of the ghetto, near the Jewish cemetery, where children and youth were placed. The area was agricultural in nature, and youth movements used it for "Hachshara" training farms.
Children and youth were uppermost in the ghetto's list of priorities. Therefore, they were given more food, and of better quality, and were relatively isolated from the poverty and crowding in the ghetto; there were an education department, medical institutions for children; records were kept of the children’s health and growth; and there was even a children's theater. Young people, aged 14-18, received professional training, which allowed them to be part of the ghetto workforce.
