Plundering Jewish property was an integral policy of Nazi policy towards the Jews. Property and assets belonging to European Jewry, who for centuries were involved in the cultural and economical activities of the countries they lived in, were methodically robbed. Even from the early days of the Nazi regime, the Nazi's started to exclude the Jews from the German economy and in 1938 plundering was legalized. With the outbreak of the war the Nazi's extended their plunder policy to the countries they occupied. Apartments, real estate, factories, businesses, art collections and collectors items were confiscated by Nazi decree. The plundering in Eastern Europe was extended to the ghettos as well. After the Jews were deported to the death camps the local populations took the Jews homes and belongings. Trains left the death camps regularly en route to Germany, carrying the belongings of the murdered Jews, among them: valuable objects; personal belongings and even victims' hair.
