Esther Elsa Szajmanowicz was born in Duisburg, Germany, 1923 to Matys and Ruchla. She was a saleswoman and single. Prior to WWII she lived in Valenciennes, France. During the war she was in Auschwitz, Poland. Deported with Transport 70 from Drancy,Camp,France to Auschwitz Birkenau,Extermination Camp,Poland on 27/03/1944. Esther Elsa survived the Shoah.

Arrested by the end of the war, she managed to survive in many camps thanks to a lucky star. She talked yiddish so she could be helped by many others. She didn't remember the names of all camps she has been sent to, she remembered Auschwitz, Ravensbruck and Dresden, maybe she did the death march as she was evacuated from one camp to another by the end of the war. ;
