Aleksandr Balshin was born in Andrushevka, Ukraine (USSR), 1941 to Solomon and Ita Leya. He was baby. Prior to WWII he lived in Andrushevka, Ukraine (USSR). During the war he was in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (USSR). Aleksandr was registered following the evacuation/ in the interior of the Soviet Union.
Following the Nazi onslaught on 22 June 1941, about one and a half million Jewish residents of the Soviet Union were evacuated or fled to the interior of the country. They had to leave everything behind and find refuge in difficult conditions of food scarcity, harsh weather and disease.
