When one hears the words "Warsaw Ghetto Uprising" in Israel, the name that immediately comes to mind is Mordecai Anielewicz, leader of the uprising from the Zionist Shomer HaTzair movement. Until not long ago, few in Israel knew much about Marek Edelman-the representative of the non-Zionist socialist Bund in the uprising, and the one who took command after Anielewicz's death. The encounter between Martin and Frits resulted in a film of 45 minutes, in which Martin Gray elaborates on his stay in the extermination camp of Treblinka, his survival in the ghetto of Warsaw, his thoughts about forgiveness, his sculpture and other themes, the leading motive of the film being Frits seeking Martin. Flames in the Ashes

Against the background of archival films excerpts, the testimonies of survivors, formerly members of underground resistance movements, are heard; they tell about revolts and resistance actions against the Nazis. "Flames in the Ashes" is the third in a series of three films about the Holocaust produced by the Ghetto Fighters Museum. It is preceded by "The 81st Blow” about the rise of antisemitism in Europe and the Holocaust (see V-1048) and "The Last Sea" about the period after the Holocaust (see: V-1005/2) follows it.
