On December 6, 1941, on the eve of Pearl Harbor, a letter was delivered to President Roosevelt. It came from Albert Einstein, the famous Jewish-German scientist that was exiling in the US. The letter brought news and a concern: it was not only possible, but imperative that the United States build a nuclear bomb before the Nazis who were already at work on such a device. Council of the Gods

Based on actual events, this DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft, the state film monopoly in the East Germany throughout that country's history) drama tells the story of I.G. Farben, a colossal German industrial corporation that helped supply Hitler’s war effort and manufactured the gas used in the Nazi death chambers. Using Nuremberg Trial records, Council of the Gods deals with the complicity of big business on both sides of the conflict and of scientists whose research contributed to the deaths of millions.
