A documentary. On the night between the 1st and the 2nd of October 1943 the German occupying power went into action against the Jewish population in Denmark. Shortly before, information had leaked from the German Head Quarter. Escape routes were organized, and the Jews - now refuges in their own country - flocked north to Gilelleje, the key port of disembarkation. During the weeks that followed, the Danish resistance movement - widely supported by the rest of the population - managed to get 95% of the Danish Jews safely across to neutral Sweden. A Sudent film. The wartime experiences of the producer’s grandfather, Leopold Edelsten, born 1934 in Denmark. Edelsten narrates how he survived the German occupation and revisits the places he stayed in or passed through during his escape from Denmark to Sweden. Edelsten and his family first hid at the practice of his uncle’s colleague.They successfully reached Sweden. The student film was selected as the winning movie in a competition between movies depicting the rescue and escape of Danish Jewry to Sweden.
