Berlin - Paris, Die Geschichte der Beate Klarsfeld

A Documentary film. Brunhilde Pomsel always described herself as just being a side-line figure and not at all interested in politics. Aged 105, Pomsel used to work as secretary, stenographer and typist for the Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. Pomsel’s life mirrors the major historical ruptures of the 20th century and German life thereafter. The film forces viewers to ask themselves what they would have done and whether they would have sacrificed any possible moral principles in order to advance their own careers.

The Day the Clown Cried

Helmut Doork, a once great and famous clown, is fired from the circus. Getting drunk at a local bar, he pokes fun at Hitler in front of some Gestapo agents, who arrest and send him to a prison camp. Helmut angers his fellow prisoners by refusing to perform for them, wanting to preserve his legend. As times passes, Jews are brought into the camp, with fraternizing between them and the other prisoners strictly prohibited. Eventually, Helmut is forced by the others to perform or be beaten. His act bombs and he leaves the barracks depressed, trying the routine out again alone in the prison yard. He hears laughter...

The Cellar

A mono-drama dealing with a Holocaust survivor who is haunted by fears. "The Cellar" is one of the first Israeli films dealing with the Holocaust. The director of the film Natan Gross, born in Krakov and one of the pioneers of Israeli cinema, is himself a victim of the Nazi experience. He managed to survive as a Christian Aryan by using forged papers. The film won the Interfilm Prize at the Berlin Festival in 1964 and was nominated for the festival's "Golden Bear" first prize.
