Robert Jay Lifton is a prominent American scientist and author, he is best known for his studies of the psychological causes and effects of war and political violence and a founder member of the “International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War”, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. The Jewish psychologist and psychiatrist visited 80 Auschwitz survivors and 40 Holocaust perpetrators, mainly former Nazi physicians. In the film he describes his approach and charts the way in which ordinary doctors not only Nazis change from healers to killers
