סרט תיעודי. הסרט עוסק בתולדותיהן של חמש קהילות יהודיות באירופה לפני המלחמה, בחורבנן בתקופת השואה ובשיקומן בישראל לאחר המלחמה. סיפורן של קהילות פוניבז' בליטא, קהילות איטליה, יהדות אשכנז בגרמניה, סלוניקי שביוון, ובעלזא שבפולין פותח צוהר לקיום היהודי באירופה לאורך הדורות, קיום שנדון לכיליון בתקופת השואה. בצד האובדן והאבל על חורבנן של הקהילות היהודיות, הסרט מדגיש את החוסן והנחישות של שארית הפליטה, שהקימו ישיבות, בתי כנסת ומוסדות חינוך בישראל על מנת למנת להנציח ולשמר את העבר.

סרט זכרון אישי קצר של הבמאי רון לוין, על אביו, ר' הנרי סטנפורד לוין/Henry Stanford Levine. הנרי לוין היה עו"ד יהודי שנולד וגדל בעיר סירקיוז במדינת ניו יורק. הוא שירת בחיל האוויר האמריקני, ונפל בשבי הנאצי כשבוי מלחמה. ככזה הוחזק עם שבויי מלחמה נוספים במחנה נאצי Stalag Luft 1. הוא הצליח לקיים בחשאי תפילות יהודיות במחנה, תוך שהוא משתמש רק במשולש אחד מתוך סמל המגן דוד. הסרט מבוסס על ספר באותו השם שכתב רון לוין.

The Lost Synagogue of Ioannina

A documentary. Ioannina, Greece had two synagogues before WWII. The Nazi’s desecrated the newer synagogue, Kal Kadosh Hadash, by using it as a stable. It was then razed by the city after the war to accommodate the remnant of returning Jews with living space. Few remember the original. The film is dedicated to its memory.

The Whole World is a Narrow Bridge

This private story of Slovakia’s Jewish community revolving around sepia-coloured photographs is dedicated to Ján Mozolák who saved the lives of 14 Jews who were supposed to be executed during the war. Would Jossi Steiner be the rabbi of Košice nowadays if he had not found shelter in the basement owned by the Slovak equivalent of Oscar Schindler?
