Histories Of The Holocaust - Buchenwald 1937-42

This program documents the events of Buchenwald, where the prisoners were dealt out savage punishment for the slightest infraction of the rules. Inmates would freeze in -20° temperatures, starved and were worked to death; the guard dogs enjoyed significantly better living conditions. The camp was originally built to house 8,000, but by the end in 1945, when the U.S. forces arrived, contained over 50,000 enemies of the Reich, including Jews, political prisoners, homosexuals and Jehovah s Witnesses. Never an extermination camp like Auschwitz, Buchenwald was a labor camp, but it excelled in making everything...

Mama, L'Chaim!

A short documentary. The life of 62-year-old Chaim Lubelski, who lives with his 95-year-old mother in a one-bedroom apartment in a Jewish residential home for the elderly. Chaim’s mother, Nechama, was born in Poland and survived the Nazi concentration camps. Her parents and her first husband were killed in Auschwitz. After the war, she and her second husband, Wolf, also a concentration camp survivor, wanted to emigrate to America, but they were denied because of Wolf’s tuberculosis and forced to stay in Germany. Chaim made it his mission in life to care for them as they got older.

Olga

Drama. Follows the true story of German Jewish and communist activist Olga Benario who is sent on a mission to escort the head of the Brazilian communist party Luis Carlos Prestes from Moscow to Brazil where he is to lead the revolution. Along the way Olga falls in love with Luis and they marry. Under the dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas, Olga, who was by then pregnant, was arrested and deported to Germany. In a prison there, she gave birth to a daughter in 1936 and in 1938 sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp and finally gassed in 1942. Based on the biography titled 'Olga' by Fernando Morais.
