Australian documentary focuses on the lives of European Jews who settled in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton in the 1940s, fleeing World War II atrocities and post-War conditions. Interestingly the Jews from Eastern Europe clashed with Anglo-Jews, settled in the nineteenth century, who identified as British rather than Jewish and disapproved of the too obvious presence of Sephardic Jews, with whom they feared association. This is a video dance by the choreographer-dancer Allen Kaeja that is based on the successful stage performance. The work examines the dynamics of a community confronting the war and the changes that they go through in a time of crisis. It is based on true events that occurred in Kutno, Poland. First broadcast on Canadian CBC Channel 18th March 2004. It was nominated for the Gemini Award, a Canadian Television Prize.
