This documentary is based on a film made by Sydney Berenstein, head of the film section of the Allies' psychological warfare division, and one of the British soldiers who entered Bergen-Belsen in April 1945. Berenstein filmed everything the liberating soldiers saw so that these atrocities could never be denied. He persuaded the Americans and Russians to send him footage they had from other camps, and included this footage in his film in order to show that Bergen Belsen was not unique among the Nazi concentration camps.
