A documentary. The long-forgotten tale of migrant ship, The Salvador, that set sail from Bulgaria en route to Palestine in 1940, carrying 352 passengers on board before sinking by the Turkish coast. Of all the passengers on the ship, only 122 survived. Combining archive material and interviews with the survivors, this documentary tells the story of The Salvador and of Bulgarian Jews’ ill-fated migration efforts, whilst lingering on the way the tragedy was received by the land’s Jewish communities of the time.
This documentary tells the story of a few thousands Jewish children saved from the burning in the flames of war Europe. In the period 1938 – 1944 on their way to Palestine they passed through the territory of Bulgaria, an ally of Germany of Hitler in those years. Different people helped clerks from the Bulgarian Ministries, prominent diplomats and common adventurers.
