An of "The kindly ones" Jonathan Littell's 2006 controversial 1000-page novel, dissecting the ruthless mechanisms of the Shoah from the detached point of view of Maximilian Aue, a high-ranking Nazi officer. Criticized and praised to the skies, the work of the young Franco-American writer immediately unleashed passions, becoming the recipient of the Prix Goncourt and the Académie Française award.
