A mono-drama dealing with a Holocaust survivor who is haunted by fears. "The Cellar" is one of the first Israeli films dealing with the Holocaust. The director of the film Natan Gross, born in Krakov and one of the pioneers of Israeli cinema, is himself a victim of the Nazi experience. He managed to survive as a Christian Aryan by using forged papers. The film won the Interfilm Prize at the Berlin Festival in 1964 and was nominated for the festival's "Golden Bear" first prize.
