In occupied France, the documentary was one of the instruments of propaganda recovered by the government of Vichy, collaborationist and the Nazi occupiers. A war of propaganda picture interposed itself in June 1940. Intended to reflect reality, these images refer to struggles for influence between the protagonists. They fall styles depending on the specific goals of each. From Documentary 178, restored by the French Film Archives, the historian Jean-Pierre Bertin-Maghi these propaganda analysis under the Occupation and urges us to consider them as the result of a policy that was far from homogeneous and frozen from 1940 to 1944. He did not hesitate, whenever it was necessary to the understanding of speech, to confront these documentaries to other forms of propaganda by the image, news or posters.
