Based on a true story of an event that took place in April 1945 in a small German town. After years of not seeing a train pass through their town, the citizens are surprised to see a cattle train full of concentration camp prisoners. According to the instructions of the SS officers, three carriages are disconnected from the train which continues on. The carriages are guarded by a number of soldiers. Inside are 300 starving prisoners. The film shows the events that happen during three days and focuses on Anna, the young daughter of the local innkeeper. She is shocked by the reactions of her family. When voices are heard, pleas for help from the prisoners, Anna decides to take food and water to them. She is horrified by what she sees. After three days, the town people take matters into their own hands and arrange for the locked carriages to be sent on to another town.
