A post-war drama about counter-espionage in New York during WW2. The film, shot mainly in New York in the Film Noir genre and with semidocumentary style, was made with full coperation of the of the FBI. J. Edgar Hoover, head of the organizatiion at that time, can be seen in the introduction. Sveral scenes were shot in Washington with actual agents. The story is a thinly disguised version of the FBI's real-life Duquesne Spy Ring saga of 1941, the largest convicted espionage case in the history of the United States. On January 2nd, 1942, 33 Nazi spies, including the ring leader Fritz Joubert Duquesne, were sentenced to serve a total of over 300 years in prison. One German spymaster later commented that the ring’s roundup delivered ‘the death blow’ to their espionage efforts in the United States. Winner 1946 Oscar (Original Motion Picture Story) — Charles G.
