Set in 1930s Europe, the film focuses on personal choice in a times of war when personal and political convictions go beyond bounds, and compels each individual to take a position. Gilda is a 20 years old photographer who shares an apartment in Paris with Mia, Spanish model and Spanish model and nurse, and Guy, an idealist Irish teacher who used to be her lover. The three spend most of their days entertaining themselves, but with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Mia and Guy chose to move to Spain and assist the war against Franco’s Fascism. Gilda, on the other hand, refuses to renounce her hedonist lifestyle and put all her energy in her career as photographer. At this stage, the three friends are separated seemingly forever.
