But the Homeland is Here

Movies
Produced for the Tefen museum of German speaking Jewry. In autumn 1998, marking the 60th anniversary of Kristallnacht, a project in Vienna was held entitled “lost neighbors” in the framework of which the façade of the Synagogue on Neudegragasse Street in Vienna’s 8th district was reconstructed. The curator of the project was Kaethe Kratz. Survivors from all over the world were invited to take part in the project. The filmmaker follows of few of these – those who in 1938 chose to come to Palestine with Youth Aliyah. Also talks with the initiator of the project and looks at the reactions of people living in the neighborhood at the time of the exhibit, getting sometimes sympathetic, sometimes hostile or indifferent reactions.
