BBC and The History Channel Documentary series, dealing with crucial days and events of the 20th century. Each chapter presents archive material and dramatic reenacments. This episode of the series Days that Shook the World deals with 2 media events that provoked a public interest and became known as forgeries. The first is the Orson Wells radio play, War of the Worlds, broadcasted on 31.10.1938 that since became a media myth. The second event in the program tells of the “discovery” of Hitler Diaries in April 1983 as it was told in the British Sunday Times and the West-German Stern. Based on a dramatic reconstruction, the program focuses on the Sunday Times editorial board including the uncertainties, the repeated appeals to the Historian Hugh Trevor Ruper, the decision to go ahead with the publication made by the publisher Rupert Murdock and the discovery of the forgery. It also includes a general archive films and photos.
