American History X

This powerful drama deals with Racism and Neo Nazism in America of the present time through the story of two brothers, Derek and Danny Vinyard, and takes place in Venice Beach, California. Many of the events in the film are shown as flashbacks, and the viewer is exposed gradually to escalating brawl which originally emerged on a street basketball game blacks and whites and later provoked racial hate, violence and murder. The film uses black and white to depict the period in Derek's life when he's only judging people by the color of their skin, and color for later time in his life when he begins to see people differently. Actor Edward Norton was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance. "America History X" was selected by "Amnesty International" to accompany the organization projects all over the world. In a 2007 poll sponsored by Entertainment Weekly, the film was voted among the most violent films of all time.
