The King and the Jester

This animated musical was produced with computer-generated graphics and relates the story of the Lodz Ghetto conflict between a street singer and the Jewish king of the ghetto. This unique story of the Lodz Ghetto is extraordinary and extremely controversial. Some see the events that transpired there as heroic efforts to survive the Holocaust while others view it a horrific case of collaboration between two hundred thousand residents of the Ghetto and the Nazis. Based on chronicles hidden in a well and discovered after World War II, The film attempts to understand what occurred in the Lodz Ghetto. It is a complicated effort to collect and reenact the songs of the street singer. Yisrael (Sasha) Damidov performs the role of the street singer and Leonid Kanyevski plays the role of Haim Romkovski, the “King of the Jews
