This Israel Television Channel 2 program “Fact”, presents Kurt Becher. Becher was an SS officer who arrived in Hungary in March 1944 after serving a number of years on the Russian front. He was responsible for rounding up horses and equipment for the Waffen-SS units. In addition to this, he was the main representative of the SS in negotiations with the “Aid and Rescue Committee” in Budapest and especially with Israeli Rudolph Kastner. Becher was connected to the “Kastner Train” organization and with enabling its passengers to travel from Bergen-Belsen to Switzerland. At the beginning of 1945, he was appointed by Himmler to be “Special Commissioner of the Reich for all concentration camps”. Becher traveled with Kastner and was involved in preventing exterminations in the camps in the final weeks of the war. After Germany surrendered, Becher was his jail cell in Nurenberg.
