Her Heart

A drama which tells the true story of Saide Arifova, a young Crimean Tatar teacher. Arifova hid dozens of Jewish children in a foster home, forged documents to change their names and taught them the Islamic culture and language of the area so they could pass as Crimean Tatars during the Nazi occupation of Crimea. Arifova was questioned and tortured by the Gestapo due to rumors that she was housing Jewish children, however she survived. Arifova is known to have saved at least 74 Jewish children. Although it is claimed that she has been honored by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations, she does not currently appear in their database. The film pays respect to Arifova and all that she did to ensure the Jewish children survive the hell the Nazis force them to endure.
