Samuel Benedek was deported to Auschwitz together with his wife, Gisella. From Auschwitz he was transferred to Sachsenhausen camp and sent the letter from there. He did not survive the Holocaust. His son, Alexander Benedek, born in 1924, was drafted to labor battalions and spent the war there. Upon his return home to Nagyvarad he received the letter from the neighbor.
