Report by Dr. Kurt May on the deportation of 7000 Jews from Baden and Palatinate to Gurs, France, and the conditions of the camp, 1940-1942
One of the very few survivors has described the deportation to Gurs and the situation there:
- Sudden deportation of the Jews on 21 October 1940; the deportees were allowed to take just 100 Reichsmark and hand luggage.
-Transport by train and trucks; arrival at Camp du Gurs after a few days.
- The conditions at Gurs: Half-decayed wooden barracks, leaky roofs, no electricity, no windows, no furniture, straw to sleep only after a few days, insufficient food...
