Weiss discusses the growing strength of antisemitic tendencies and anti-Jewish legislation in Poland by rightest and centrist parties and the stance of democratic factions and organizations that sought to stanch the antisemitic tide. Restrictions on Jews' economic activity, segregation of Jewish students at institutes of higher education, and physical assaults on Jews were overtly protested by democratic intellectual and political leaders in 1937–1939.
