German occupation, May 1940; escape of the family to Paris; death of the witness' little brother en route; anti-Jewish legislation; yellow badge; travel limitations; concentration of the Jewish males in a stadium in Paris, summer 1942; detention of his father; escape of his father from detention and his hiding in the house; displays of antisemitism at school; capture of the family in their home, late 1943; escape of the witness from the apartment; in hiding in a circus in the city; wandering in the streets; arrival at the school he had previously attended a few days later; being hidden by the school principal; transfer to a hiding place in a village in the area of Grenoble a few weeks later; life in hiding, including hunger; liberation by the US Army, summer 1944.
