Testimony of Yanina Hesheles Altman, born in Lwow, Poland in 1931, regarding her experiences ‎in Janowska camp and her rescue by the Zegota organization Her father was a Zionist journalist; outbreak of the war in September 1939; father’s escape to ‎Romania; his temporary detention in a Russian prison; the German occupation in June 1941; ‎pogrom carried out by Ukrainians in which her father was murdered; establishment of the Lwow ‎Ghetto; Aktions; hanging of the Judenrat leaders; failed attempt to hide with Christian families; ‎mother’s work at the Jewish hospital; liquidation of the ghetto; mother escapes to the Aryan side; ‎moving by choice to the Janowska camp; labor in a sewing workshop; composing poetry; her ‎friendship with a member of the Zegota movement and his efforts to rescue her; placement with ‎families in Krakow in October 1943; writing a journal during the war; liberation; her experiences in ‎a Polish children’s home in Poronin; aliya to Israel in 1950; absorption.‎
