Soviet occupation ensues in 1939; German occupation follows; witness born in Święciany in September 1941; life in hiding in forests at one month of age; internment in the Opsa, Postawy, and Święciany ghettos; hearing rumors about liquidation of shtetlakh in Lithuania and Belorussia; escaping from Aktionen; adoption by a Russian family in October 1942; parents survive in the ghettos in 1943; liquidation of the Święciany ghetto and murder of the Jews in Ponary; parents hide until the liberation in July 1944; family reunited; they move to Poland and Germany; mother teaches in the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp; immigration to Eretz Israel in 1947.
