Life before the war; offspring of a Zionist family; German occupation begins in May 1940; unsuccessful attempt to escape to Britain; anti-Jewish legislation; expropriation and Aryanization; the yellow star edict; living in fear of deportatiosn in summer 1942; Jewish schoolchildren gradually disappear; family is deported to Westerbork in January 1944; life in the camp; suffering and hunger; epidemic typhus; younger sister dies in January 1945; mother's physical condition deteriorates; deportation by train in early April 1945; father dies aboard the train; liberation in Trobitz by Red Army forces on April 23, 1945; back to the Netherlands; rehabilitation; antisemitism; immigration to Israel in 1951; adjustment to life in Israel.
