Testimony of Joseph Schlesinger, born in Rozan, Poland, 1935, regarding the murder of Rozan Jews and escape to the USSR Family background, Orthodox family. The outbreak of war; entry of German soldiers into the town, September 1939; deportation from homes; the concentration of Jews in the synagogue courtyard; setting the synagogue on fire; shooting at fugitives; hiding the witness and his family in the forest; transfer to the Makow Mazowiecki ghetto; assistance of a German officer in escaping from the ghetto; escape towards the Russian border; crossing the Bug River in a boat; arrival in the city of Vologda; deportation of his father to a Soviet camp; his mother's work in the factory; hunger. Liberation of his father with the German invasion, 1941; move to Kyrgyzstan; his father's ties with the police chief; his actions to rescue Jews from camps in preparation for repatriation; return to Poland; stay in a children's home of Bnei Akiva; aliya to Eretz Israel 1947; absorption and acclimatization.
