Testimony of Esther Leib née Rath, born in 1919 in Beclean, Romania, about her experiences in Beclean, the Dej ghetto, Bergen-Belsen, Auschwitz, and elsewhere Life before the war; Hungary reannexes the area in 1940; anti-Jewish legislation; German occupation ensues in March 1944; the yellow star edict; deportation to the Dej ghetto; dispossession, musual aid; abuse; three weeks later: deportation to Auschwitz and separation from family; life in the camp; roll calls; mutual aid; hunger; three months later: transfer to Bergen-Belsen; life in the camp on Yom Kippur; the front closes in and the camp is evacuated; three weeks of travel by rail with the other women prisoners, without food; led out on a death march toward Theresienstadt; receiving assistance from Czech civilians; liberation by Red Army forces in May 1945; life after the war; immigration to Israel in 1950.
