Testimony of Joseph Gendler, born in Secureni, Romania, 1930, regarding his experiences in the Edineti Ghetto, in a forest and in the Verkhovka Sovkhoz Childhood in an Orthodox family; Gordonia and Dror activities; studies in a Talmud Torah; Soviet occupation, 1940; deportation of the well-to-do to Siberia; abolition of private businesses; Romanian occupation, 1941; deportation to the Edineti Ghetto; Transnistria; living conditions; hunger; cold; mortality; bartering for food; physical abuse of Jews; living in a chicken coop and a stable; death of his mother and his sister in Pavlivka; escape to a forest for two weeks; "Aktion" of the men; their murder and burial in a mass grave; drowning of men in a frozen pool; survival of 500 men out of 10,000; abuse of Jews by an Ukrainian; escape to the Verkhovka Sovkhoz; agricultural work; information regarding what is happening on the various fronts; liberation by the Red Army. Return to Romania; rehabilitation after the war; aliya to Israel, 1976.
