Testimony of Haim Michaeli, born in 1943 in Szczawnica, Poland, about his experiences as an infant Mischling ("mixed-breed") in hiding with his non-Jewish grandmother Offspring of a Jewish mother and a non-Jewish father; deportation of Jews from Szczawnica to Nowy Sacz; his mother, Bella Chjuwic, finds a hideout in the mountains; mother joins the partisans; Haim is placed with his non-Jewish grandmother; mother is executed; father collaborates with the Germans; grandmother dies and Haimi is placed in orphanages; Haim discovers his Jewishness at age 12; moves to Belgium and enrolls in a haredi ("ultra-Orthodox") yeshiva; immigrates to Israel in 1960.
