Testimony of Haim Rintovich, born in Kaunas, Lithuania, 1923, regarding his experiences in Kaunas, the Kaunas Ghetto, Kaufering, Landsberg and Dachau Childhood in a traditional family; attends Tarbut school for six years; assists his mother in her job in a candy factory. Outbreak of war; 1939; occupation [of Kaunas] by the Red Army, 1940; life [in Kaunas] until summer, 1941; outbreak of war between Germany and the Soviet Union, June 1941; occupation [of Kaunas] by the German Army; deportation to the Kaunas Ghetto; receiving gold and silver from a policeman acquaintance; obtaining a large amount of sugar by bribing two Lithuanian policemen; preparation of candy and sweets in the evenings; selling the sweets in the ghetto by his mother; life in the ghetto without hunger; liquidation of the ghetto, July 1944; transfer to Kaufering by train; life with his father and his uncle in the camp including work in the kitchen; receiving additional food for a long period of time; labor in establishing a subterranean factory; labor in Landsberg in operating an oven; transfer to Dachau, 24 April 1945; a week-long death march without receiving food; liberation by the US Army. Return to Kaunas together with his father; life in Kaunas under Soviet rule; transfer to labor camps after being informed on; aliya to Israel, 1972.
