Testimony of Benjamin Gunter Born, born in Berlin, Germany, 1932, regarding his experiences in Berlin and in hiding His childhood in Germany during the 1930s; witness was the only Jewish pupil in his class. Expulsion from the school; calling of insults by children; unsuccessful attempts [by his family] to leave Germany; transfer of his mother to forced labor in a factory; his father receives a work permit as a truck driver; deportation of relatives to camps; rumors concerning the murder of Jews in pits; extension of [his father's] work license; rescue from a deportation; deportation of his family, October 1944; escape from the tram, en route to the deportation; in hiding while hidden by a family friend; liberation, May 1945. Return of his grandfather from Theresienstadt; [knowledge regarding the] murder of his parents and sister in Auschwitz; witness joins a children's home; aliya to Israel within the context of Hashomer Hatzair, 1948.
