Testimony of Marta (Goldberger) Cohen, born in Dolne Ostrokovice, Czechoslovakia, 1936, regarding her experiences in Dolne Ostrokovice, Novaky, a forest and in hiding in Dolne Ostrokovice Her childhood in the only [Jewish] family in Dolne Ostrokovice; attitude of the local population; life in Dolne Ostrokovice until 1943. Arrival of a foreign family in the context of the Aryanization; life at home in one room; deportation of her father to Novaky camp, July 1943; deportation to Novaky camp; outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising, late August 1944; release [of her father from the camp]; move back home; her family receives help from friends in Dolne Ostrokovice in order to establish temporary places in a forest for the family members and relatives to live; life in the forest for approximately one month, with the knowledge of all the residents of Dolne Ostrokovice; discovery of the hiding place by a policeman; receives an offer by an acquaintance in Dolne Ostrokovice to hide their family members, in exchange for payment; in hiding in a room while hidden by a farmer along with her aunt's family, including overcrowding and a shortage of food for approximately six months; entry into a container under the floor during time of danger; liberation by the Red Army, late April 1945. Move back home; life in Dolne Ostrokovice including help to the farmer who rescued them; aliya to Israel, 1949.
